Each year (middle of September), everyone in Urmston is invited to create a Scarecrow, for public display! (It is organised by the Facebook Group: Urmston Partnership).
Anyone can enter and it’s a fun thing to do, especially during the August bank holiday weekend!
This year my friend at FREDS (ie the clothes shop in Urmston) thought it would be funny to make a scarecrow of the Garden Girl! ME! Wow! What an amazing effort. The resemblance was uncanny ….we could have been twins!….and best of all….it WON 1st prize!
It was left at the front of my house with a wheelbarrow, all planted up with pansies, as a surprise while I was out. It was so realistic that passers-by were shouting “Hi Gaynor!”. They thought I was being rude when I didn’t reply. Even the window cleaners tried to have a chat with her. It was so funny.
Well done Valerie Tinker! You’re the best Scarecrow-maker in town!
Happy Scarecrow Festival!
